Sleeping Sophia

Sophia does a lot of this these days :) Just never for more than a few hours at a time. 3-31/2 hours at night is a victory here and makes her Mom very happy.
I could watch her sleep all day. So cute.

Sophia is 1 week old!

Our Sophia Alice is 1 week old!

What a week it has been! We left the hospital on Thursday with our beautlful baby girl. We were so excited to bring our Sophia home and really start life as a family of three!

Friday was a big day for Sophia. She had her first visit to the pediatrician. They weighed her (6lbs 15oz) and her pediatrician, Dr. Hellerstein, checked her out. She said she had a little jaundice but wasn't concerned. Mom and Dad really like Sophia's pediatrician. She is very nice, patient, and was highly recommended by other doctors who take their kids to her.

After the pediatrician Sophia, Mom and Dad went to see a lactation consultant to get some tips since Sophia was having marathon feeding sessions and was not settling very well. The lactation consultant was very helpful and we saw a huge difference in Sophia's eating and sleeping over the next day.

Sophia also had lots of visitors during her first week. Her grandparents have been by, her Aunt and Uncle from Virginia came out to see her, her Uncle Mark and Aunt Laura came over for a visit and her Uncle David stopped by. A few of mom and dad's friends came by with food and to say hi to Miss. Sophia. She is quite the popular gal.

At 1 week old Sophia:
  • Wears size newborn clothes and diapers
  • Eats 8-12 times a day (usually hovering around 10 or 11)
  • Sleeps very well in her swing, crib, arms, baby chair.....Yay for mommy's milk coming in on day 4! The first few nights at home she would only sleep if one of us held her and was still pretty fussy.
  • Sleeps at most 3 hours at a time but "usually" 2 1/2-3 at night and 1-2 hours during the day between eating
  • Is a champion tummy timer. Lifts her head and turns from side to side and up and down. Cries after a few minutes to let us know she's had enough.
  • Is very loved!

Sophia Alice has arrived!

Sophia Alice Carter was born on Tuesday, January 18 at 3:36pm. She weighed 7lbs 10oz and is 20" long!

I was 40 weeks and 2 days pregnant when Sophia arrived.

We couldn't be happier with our baby girl.

More on our first week at home to come! Wow, hard to believe she is already a week old :)

*** As you know, I've decided to go private with the blog now that Sophia is here. If anyone asks you about reading the blog please have them send me an email. I will add anyone to the list as long as I know who they are! Thanks!

39 Weeks

and we're still here! Tricked you didn't I? ;) My lack of weekly posts is purely due to a lack of energy/will to post them not the arrival of our baby girl. Plus, we packed all of our cameras so we wouldn't forget to take them to the hospital if it turns into a mad dash. I'll try and remember to pull it out and get a 39 week photo but memory is something I lack these days.

I am 39 weeks and 3 days to be exact. I've had a few "false" alarms over the last few weeks. Even spent a few hours on Monday at the doctors on the contraction monitor (that's the technical name for it for sure) to see if I was in any kind of labor. Doctor said it was either false labor or early labor. No real way to know for sure. :) gotta love the mysteries of child birth.

To help encourage our little girl along and maintain my sanity we have joined the old folks and taken up mall walking. You never know what you'll see at an upscale mall in the 'burbs. On our first visit we saw a side mullet! Business on one side party on the other. sweet. We also saw a dress for a baby for $175! Baby C obviously needs this dress if she is going to be succesful in life. We are planning another walk for this evening. I wonder what we will find tonight..... I am hoping we make a pit stop at Cheryl and Co for some yummy cookies. I'm not holding my breath though...

So some stats:

How far along: 39 weeks 3 days
Net weight gain: 27 lbs... the nurse cheered for me because I gained a lb. we were stuck at 26 for a few weeks. ha
Stretch marks: liking my lotion these days, none that I can see
Belly button: out, some days flatish depending on where Baby C is positioning herself
Sleep: up 2-3 x to go to the bathroom, up some nights with cramps and contractions?
Food cravings: warm apple pie (thanks to my MIL I am indulging this on a nightly basis)
Food aversions: nothing but trying to stay away from anything to heavy in case I go into labor
What I miss: control ? :) God is definitely using pregnancy to teach my planner, organizer, doer self to relinquish control and be
Looking forward to: the arrival of our baby girl!
Best moment this week: hanging out with the high school crew :)

8 days and counting

8 days left of work that is! Maximum. I decided that my last day was either when Baby C arrives or January 14, whichever comes first. My due date is the 16th, the 17th is a holiday, and after that there is no way I am going to still feel like working if the Baby isn't here yet.

So, let the countdown begin!
