Sophia is 1 week old!

Our Sophia Alice is 1 week old!

What a week it has been! We left the hospital on Thursday with our beautlful baby girl. We were so excited to bring our Sophia home and really start life as a family of three!

Friday was a big day for Sophia. She had her first visit to the pediatrician. They weighed her (6lbs 15oz) and her pediatrician, Dr. Hellerstein, checked her out. She said she had a little jaundice but wasn't concerned. Mom and Dad really like Sophia's pediatrician. She is very nice, patient, and was highly recommended by other doctors who take their kids to her.

After the pediatrician Sophia, Mom and Dad went to see a lactation consultant to get some tips since Sophia was having marathon feeding sessions and was not settling very well. The lactation consultant was very helpful and we saw a huge difference in Sophia's eating and sleeping over the next day.

Sophia also had lots of visitors during her first week. Her grandparents have been by, her Aunt and Uncle from Virginia came out to see her, her Uncle Mark and Aunt Laura came over for a visit and her Uncle David stopped by. A few of mom and dad's friends came by with food and to say hi to Miss. Sophia. She is quite the popular gal.

At 1 week old Sophia:
  • Wears size newborn clothes and diapers
  • Eats 8-12 times a day (usually hovering around 10 or 11)
  • Sleeps very well in her swing, crib, arms, baby chair.....Yay for mommy's milk coming in on day 4! The first few nights at home she would only sleep if one of us held her and was still pretty fussy.
  • Sleeps at most 3 hours at a time but "usually" 2 1/2-3 at night and 1-2 hours during the day between eating
  • Is a champion tummy timer. Lifts her head and turns from side to side and up and down. Cries after a few minutes to let us know she's had enough.
  • Is very loved!

Glad to hear that things are going pretty well. The feedings and sleeping will level out before you know it. Great idea going to see the lactation consultant - they have such good tips!

Also, can I just say that I can't believe you and Carl have an actual honest-to-goodness baby at home! Yay!!
