tummy time

Sophia is not always a fan of tummy time. This week mom decided to try tummy time on the boppy pillow. Dad said it was cheating; mom on the other hand thinks it's pure genious.

Look at that happy baby :)

That was hard work! ;)

playing with my toys

Sophia likes to listen to her doctor (social smiled for the first time the day of her 1 month doctor's appointment) so when her doctor said she will start grabbing things soon we thought we'd test that out with her new rings.

Look at me hanging on to the rings! I may or may not have had a little help from mom...;)

a visit to the doctor

Sophia had her two month doctor's appointment on Tuesday. She weighed in at 11 lbs 10 ounces (65th percentile) and 22.5" long (50th percentile). Here are some pictures from the doctors.

Smiling at my daddy while waiting for the doctor to arrive
Having a chat with my doc and showing off how strong I am! Look at all that cute baby chub! love it!
Sophia did a great job! and then the shots showed up :( poor baby bear had to have 4 shots! She slept all morning after but had a bit of a rough afternoon, who can blame her after 4 shots! She recovered by the evening and was her smiling self again.

2 months!

Sophia is 2 months old today! It's amazing how much Sophia has grown and changed in 2 short months.

At 2 months Sophia is a smiling, happy baby most of the time. Just like the books say, her fussiness peaked around 6 weeks and we've seen a steady improvement in her mood ever since. These days if Sophia is upset there is typically a simple, quick solution...she's hungry, she wants to eat on the other side, she's on her way towards sleepy land and wants a final cuddle...

Car rides are still her only challenge, mom thinks it's because she likes to be held when she is sleepy (which is still a significant amount of time). Car rides have to be very well timed! She is certainly crying a lot less and sometimes not at all so we are hopeful she is getting used to it!

At 2 months Sophia is:
  • wearing size 0-3 months clothes
  • focusing on faces
  • holding her head up higher all the time!
  • smiling a ton!
  • cooing and babbling
  • sleeping 6-7 hours at night with 1 night feeding
  • awake for 1 hour stretches before napping again during the day

what does this do?!

Sophia has discovered her right hand but isn't quite sure what to do with it yet.

She can frequently be found sucking on it or hitting herself in the face with it. All part of the learning process.

dinosaur play time

Sophia had a lot of fun playing on her dinosaur blanket today. This was a special gift, handmade by Emily, one of Reading Camps most dedicated volunteers.
Sophia had so much fun I couldn't pick just one picture to share.
Checking out my fist

Waving my hands in the air like I just don't care

Doing my signature dance moves

I'm super cute and I know it

lunch with the ladies

Sophia went on a special outing last Saturday. She got to have lunch with two of mommy's best friends! It was Sophia's first time at a restaurant and who better to enjoy this special occasion than with Caitlin and Laura!

She was a little fussy on the way to the restaurant but slept right through lunch in her favorite spot, the Beco.

The girls :) This picture would be perfect if our friend Erin was there! We missed you Erin!

We let Carl come along so he could help with Sophia :) Laura wasn't so sure about this. ;)

daddy loves me!

and who can blame him. I am darn cute, especially in the morning before daddy heads to work. I wake up with a smile on my face and then play in my bouncy chair while mom and dad eat breakfast. I like to smile a lot at dad and mom. I have started hitting the parrot to make the music go on the bouncy chair. Mom and dad aren't sure if I do it on purpose yet or just have lucky aim when I swing my arms in excitement. Around the time daddy heads to work I hop in the baby carrier for my first nap of the day.
This is what I've done the last few days. I might change it up soon though. I like to do that. Gotta keep those 'rents on their toes.

mama, let's go for a ride!

We are seeing more and more of this sweet smiling face these days! Sophia has not always been such a fan of the car! In fact, she has been known to scream bloody murder forcing her mom to turn around and rush home. She did a great job on Sunday though and made it to church and home without any sadness. Great job Sophia! Keep it up!

7 weeks!

Sophia is seven weeks old! Unfortunately she was having a rough day on her seven week birthday and we didn't get any happy photos. Even wearing her super cute jacket and booties from Italy couldn't convince her to smile for the photo! Some days we just get up on the wrong side of the crib!

So here is a cute picture of Sophia when she is 6weeks and 6 days old.

and 7 weeks and 1 day old.

Sophia isn't smiling in these photos but trust me she is much happier.

Sophia had more big firsts during her seventh week. She went to a restaurant for the first time! Her mom took her out for lunch with the ladies more pictures and a post to come!

She also went to church on Sunday for the first time! She was at church once before for a Reading Camp meeting but this Sunday was her first time attending the worship service. It was a very special day. Sophia met lots of mommy and daddy's friends. She also met the Priest who married her mom and dad and the Bishop of El Salvador was visiting and he gave Sophia a blessing during communion! What a big day for our little girl!

At Seven Weeks Sophia is:
  • wearing size 0-3 months clothes
  • weighs around 11 lbs according to the Wii!
  • focuses on faces
  • smiles and coos
  • eats 8x a day
  • sleeps swaddled in her crib at night
  • sleeps in the baby carrier and occasionally the carseat during the day
  • is hating the car less this week but still not always her favorite place
  • loves her bouncy seat and lamb chair

burps, spit up, drool oh my!

In addition to smiling and babbling, Sophia has added burps, spit up, and drool to her repertoire of activities. 6 weeks is a peak time in fussiness and it seems it is also the beginning of all of these fun activities. Sophia can burp better than any teenage boy. It's amazing how cute these things are when performed by a sweet baby girl.

This mama has learned her lesson and started putting bibs on Sophia to save the shoulders of her pretty outfits.

what's in a name

Sophia received some special gifts this weekend that let her show off her pretty name.

She and her mommy are very excited about them!

Thanks Wilkinsons for my cute onesie! I love it!

Look for more pretty things to come :)

6 weeks!

Sophia is 6 weeks old today!

She has grown so much in size and personality! She is smiling a lot and telling her mom and dad stories with lots of baby babbles. She still sleeps about every hour and eats 8 times a day. She has started to have some regular awake periods first thing in the morning and then for brief times after most meals during the day.

Sophia has been very fussy about car rides over the last week so she hasn't been too many places. She did go to Nana and Pappy's on Sunday for lunch and to church to help with the Reading Camp book fair (she did great! already volunteering at the tender age of 6 weeks! mommy and daddy are proud).

At 6 weeks Sophia:
  • Wears size 0-3 month clothes
  • weighs over 10lbs (according to the Wii)
  • Smiles and babbles
  • doesn't like tummy time anymore!
  • still hates bathtime and diaper changes most of the time
  • loves her bouncy seat and changing table
  • naps in the baby carrier during the day
  • sleeps swaddled in her crib at night
  • is starting to sleep for longer stretches at night (4-5 hours!) but not yet consistently

Sophia, your mommy and daddy love you and we are enjoying watching you grow!
